Bottled water is not earth friendly, it takes millions of barrels of oil to produce the plastic and the amount of fuel that is consumed getting the bottles out to consumers is tremendous.

Plastic contains harmful chemicals such as bisphenol-A and antimony which leach into the water that people are drinking! The government says the levels are acceptable-common sense says that no amount of cancer-causing chemicals are acceptable.

Burning all that fuel is adding millions of tons of greenhouse gasses to our environment and only adding to the problem of global warming.

Less than 3 out of every 10 bottles end up recycled, the rest end up in landfills or polluting our waterways.

Water bottling companies keep pushing recycling as the way to make up for all the plastic that is produced and thrown away. But recycling also uses a lot of energy and fuel. Guess who has to pick up the tab when the recyclers run a debt? We do!  We end up paying more taxes so people can drink their water out of a one-time-use plastic bottle instead of using a refillable bottle with tap water or filtered tap water.

Plastic can take 400 to 1000 years to break down into smaller pieces of plastic, they never decompose!

We spend millions of dollars in tax money to maintain our water infrastructure but the bottlers use it almost for free to make profits of billions of dollars without putting any of that money back into the system. Our infrastructure here in Canada needs over 12 billion dollars worth of upkeep and everyone who uses bottled water is contributing to the problem.

On the following websites, important water issues are considered such as corporate control over our water and whether or not water should be considered a basic human right or a commodity from which large corporations can earn a profit.
